IT'S STARTING TO FEEL A LOT LIKE SUMMER

Grandpa with Zachary Sherman

Our recent visit with our Grandson Max and his mom and dad in Philadelphia was a wonderful way to initiate the Spring and Summer seasons. Max was celebrating his first Birthday. He is quite vocal, busy, and very charming.  He loved his cake. He is so happy all the time and his happiness is contagious. As happy as a Birthday party can be, our joy was boosted even higher when we learned that Max had a new cousin.  Our second grandson, Zachary, had just been born in Chicago. What a celebration!

My wife Janice and I know that a Grandchild is one of the best good feelings anyone can experience in their life.  To be with Max and his family and to learn about Zachary’s arrival was just about as good as things can be.  Enveloped in our joy, smelling the flowers of spring, we could say that life is very good.

Yet, life never lets us just be completely happy for very long without news of difficulties, calamities, and disasters sprinkled in.  Floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and tornadoes fly all around us.  We have to balance the bad with the good and sometimes, we have to go looking for good.  Having enough food to be satisfied, a comfortable place to sleep, and living in a country where we can freely say what we think without the fear of being imprisoned, are just a few of the things to be so thankful for. Those without these joys need our help: donations, hands on help, our kind words and deeds.  That is the American Way.  The streets of America may not be paved with gold... but they are paved with good.

As we all sit down to relax and enjoy the Spring and Summer, we should survey all that we have to be thankful for. Be HAPPY. That may be the best message for us all at the start of the Summer Holiday Season with the Fourth of July.  Catch HAPPINESS and transmit it to everyone.  Zachary and Max gave it to us.
